Biography:

Mr. Lokman Ayva who was born in 1966 lost his eyesight as a result of severe meningitis at the age 11. However, this condition has never affected his desire to study and he completed his higher education in 1993 at Boğaziçi University, Department of Business Administration. He also obtained his master’s degree from the same university in 1996. Mr. Lokman Ayva served as the founding chairman of the Disability Coordination Centre in Istanbul Municipality. In 2001, he was appointed as Istanbul Municipality Disabled Centre Manager. He has received many awards and recognition due to his tireless work on visually impaired and disabled peoples’ affairs and achievements.

In 2002, he entered the parliament as AK Party member and serve two consecutive period. He is the first visually impaired member of Turkish parliament. As the first visually impaired member, he represented Turkey in the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly in 2007.
